ebidlaptopThe switch over to the new eBid servers and new hosting company “ThePlanet.com” has for the most part went quite well, there are still a few glitches which are being fixed as you read this.

The server switch over was always going to involve a bit of downtime due to the way it was implemented by eBid and the normal DNS propagation times involved, However, for Talktalk, Tiscali and Pipex ISP customers it was a different story with no access to eBid.net since the move and a lot of worried users wondering what the hell has happened.

From what I have read on the eBid forums, One Tiscali user was told by Tiscali support that due to the recent hot weather there has been a DNS server crash and that it may take some time before eBid.net and other sites show again. Tiscali support gave out new DNS addresses so Tiscali users can once again connect to eBid.net while they wait for Tiscali to fix the Problem.

UPDATE 14/07/2009
After two weeks, Tiscali have responded by saying the following.

Quote
“My apologies for the lack of update on this, I am liasing with our network team who are dealing with this as an urgent matter”

Quote
“Our network team have responded stating that some of our DNS servers are now correctly pointing to the site’s new IP address, whilst it could take another day or so for the others to be updated. For now you may or may not be able to access ebid”

There are other free alternative DNS servers addresses that you can use such as OpenDNS.com and it is generally a good idea to write down a backup set of dns addresses for emergencies.
